Monday, March 30 - Phillip Lopate on Two Marriages

Impossible to be a reader, even a casual reader, without knowing the name and work of my guest Monday at noon, and owning a copy of an anthology he’s edited, among these The Art of the Personal Essay; Writing New York, Journey of a Living Experiment. Phillip Lopate is also author of the three personal essay collections -- Bachelorhood, Against Joie de Vivre and Portrait of My Body; two novels, Confessions of Summer and The Rug Merchant; two poetry collections and a memoir on being a teacher; a collection of movie criticism and more. Much of his writing is collected in a Phillip Lopate reader, Getting Personal. Now Phillip Lopate arrives with his first fiction in many years, two novellas from Other Press, wry and revelatory portraits of two men, two marriages, two cautionary tales. I’m happy to invite him to read and talk about the book, titled Two Marriages. Damn, this show is good. It's Phillip Lopate, folks! This writer is a heroic booster of a form, a Man of Letters, a mensch, a memoirist whose work turns young people (and old) on to writing, autobiography, reading, thinking, being. Listen up already. Thanks always! KPFK 90.7 / FM 98.7 FM. http://www.kpfk.org

OK, you say it's impossible to be a reader without owning a collection by Philip Lopate, but I am an avid reader and writer and don't own a collection. Obviously, I have to remedy that. --max
