Monday, August 11 - poet Jeffrey Harrison

Jeffrey Harrison’s newest collection, The Names of Things is a welcome benchmark in a career of a young poet on his way. In this and five previous volumes, Harrison’s understated, funny, seemingly effortless embrace of subjects funny --- like revenge upon a lousy teacher --- or tragic --- as the death of his brother --- arrive in similarly easy, elegant lines. Harrison has received numerous fellowships and prizes, including the Lavan Younger Poets Award from the Academy of American Poets. This week I present a recording of poet Jerffrey Harrison’s recent reading at Casa Romantica’s poetry series. Special thanks to the good organizers of that series, of remarkable monthly free readings in San Clemente. They’ve provided a tape of Harrison reading, and I am pleased to share his work with my audience.
